Perch Lake - Santa Rosa NM

The lake is just south of town and a good spot for shore fishing with a fly rod or old-fashioned floating. A submerged airplane makes it an interesting spot for scuba diving

Perch Lake
Off Route 91, south of the city
Santa Rosa, NM 88435

Perch Lake is on Highway 91 just 1.4 miles from downtown. It’s a popular fishing spot for bait casting, spinning and fly fishing. Fishermen will find a variety of fish including rainbow trout, crappie, perch, bream/bluegill, largemouth bass and smallmouth bass.

The lake is also a popular scuba diving site, with a training platform, sunken twin prop Cessna, and a sunken car. The airplane wreck began its history as a BA53 twin-prop in February 1955 with a capacity of 8 passengers and 2 crew members and was placed in the lake in 1987. Visibility in the lake is limited, so experience is helpful.
